Ovako Redon in Western France (Brittany) was started in 1979 as “Chromage Industriel de l’Ouest” and the first line for manufacturing chrome plated bars in 6-metre lengths was installed in 1985. The current manufacturing line dates from 2002 and is the only one of its kind in the world. It is devoted to the production of nickel-chrome plated bars, which are marketed under the brand names NiKrom® and Ni-Cromax. The principal application of these products is as piston rods in hydraulic cylinders, which are subjected to aggressive environments in service, e.g. in the marine and off-shore segments.
