Two of Ovako Group’s business areas, business area bar Hofors-Hällefors, and business area Tube and Ring, operate in Hofors, located around 220 km north-west of Stockholm.
The steelmaking traditions in Hofors go back several centuries. Ovako’s operations today employ around 1,200 people in the production of steel, billets, heavy bars, tube, tube components and rings. The main focus is on bearing steel, but the vehicle, hydraulic and general engineering industries are also important business areas.
The steelmaking operation, based on ingot casting, has an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tonnes of ingots. The tube rolling capacity is approximately 120,000 tonnes annually and the ring rolling capacity approximately 45,000 tonnes a year.
Hofors is also home to a shared service centre supporting Ovako’s Swedish units in finances, IT and purchasing. The Hofors unit furthermore has joint resources for material development, QA and the environment.
