Effect of cylinder parameters on the eccentricity of hot-rolled tubes
Thesis (20 credits) completed by Per Wickstrom, Dalarna University. Carried out at Ovako, Pipes manufacturing, Department of Manufacturing Technology Hofors.
Background
A problem in the manufacturing of seamless tubes is that tubes can become eccentric. The hole center does not coincide with the center of the outer diameter due to different factors of production. This phenomenon causes serious problems during further processing of the tube, for example, in the rings of rolling bearings.
Purpose of this study was to examine the effect of cylinder parameters on the eccentricity of hot-rolled tubes made of ball bearing steel grade Ovako 831B. This grade is due to high alloy content more difficult to process than other Ovako steel grades.
Implementation
The parameters examined were the processing temperature and two different angles in the first-choice operation.
The work consisted of literature review, interviews and practical tests. Rolling experiments were planned using statistical design of experiments and the results were evaluated in Simca.
