Gear calculation software now features Ovako clean steels

GWJ Technology is the world´s first supplier of professional calculation software to offer Ovako clean steels in its commercial gear calculation modules.

GWJ Technology, which has its roots in GWJ Engineering, is a leading software developer and supplier of professional calculation software for machine elements worldwide. Its product portfolio is wide - from standard software for classical machine elements to complete multi-shaft systems up to special gear software for the determination of the real 3D tooth form geometries for 5-axis milling.

Ovako steel grades 159X and 159Q are now available in all GWJ Technology’s eAssistant cylindrical gear modules. The 159-Steel grade variants are based on the case hardening steel 18CrNiMo7-6. 159X is a BQ-Steel (bearing quality clean steel), and 159Q is an isotropic quality ultra clean steel (IQ-Steel). Both steels have modified Wohler curves to fit in the standard calculation software. 159Q offers a 30 percent higher fatigue strength for the gear tooth flank and 60 percent for the gear tooth root for infinite life - as compared to conventional 18CrNiMo7-6. The static strength of the steels is identical to 18CrNiMo7-6. The integration of these specialty steels took place in close cooperation between Ovako and GWJ Technology. The data used in eAssistant are based on Ovako´s in-house investigations and external verification projects at WZL of RWTH Aachen University and at the Gear Research Centre (FZG) of the Technical University of Munich.
