Ovako’s steel production to be carbon-neutral from January 2022
Ovako continues to lead the way in sustainable steel production, including an innovative approach to heating steel with fossil-free hydrogen. To accelerate its environmental work, the company now takes the next step by adopting carbon-neutral steel production from January 1, 2022.

Fossil-free hydrogen initiative by Ovako, Volvo Group, Hitachi ABB Power Grids Sweden, H2 Green Steel and Nel Hydrogen
- Enables climate-neutral steel production and hydrogen-powered heavy vehicles Sweden’s largest fossil-free hydrogen facility is now being built with the goal of greatly reducing CO2 emissions, developing local industrial hydrogen production, and taking the first step towards a future hydrogen infrastructure for the transport sector. Ovako is starting a collaboration with the Volvo Group, Hitachi ABB Power Grids Sweden, H2 Green Steel and Nel Hydrogen to invest in hydrogen production in Hofors.
